Creating cost model scenarios
In BMC IT Business Management Suite, the Default Cost Model Scenario is shipped out-of-the-box. You can use the Default Cost Model Scenario to start creating new cost models for your organizations. Any new cost model that you create is added to the Default Cost Model Scenario. Depending on your requirements, you can create new cost model scenarios and add the required cost models.
If you upgrade from an earlier version of BMC IT Business Management (7.6.03+), all existing cost models are automatically specified under Default Cost Model Scenario.
Although you can create multiple cost model scenarios for a given time period, you can only set one as Active to assess and report service cost data for your IT organization. When you create a new cost model scenario, the system automatically sets the status of the scenario as inactive.
When you upgrade from an earlier version of BMC IT Business Management Suite to version 8.0, all existing cost models are associated with Default Cost Model Scenario by default.
You might need additional permissions to view or edit a cost model scenario. For more information about the required permissions, see Permissions.
To create a cost model scenario
- In the left navigation bar under the IT Management header, click Cost Models.
The Cost Models window is displayed. - In the Cost Models window, click the Cost Model Scenarios tab.
- Click New.
- In the Name field, specify a name for the cost model scenario.
- Optionally in the Description field, provide a description of the cost model scenario.
- In the Access Restriction field, specify the organizational units that can access the cost model scenario data and click Save.
The Cost Model Scenarios Details window is displayed as follows:
The Cost Model Scenario Details window has the following options:
- New
Use this option to create a new cost model scenario. - Edit
Use this option to edit the name, description or access restriction for the cost model scenario. - Delete
Use this option to delete the cost model scenario. You cannot delete a cost model scenario that you have set as Active. Therefore the Delete option is not visible on the window if a scenario is set to Active. - Copy
Use this option to create a copy of the cost model scenario. Activate
Use this option to set the cost model as Active. You can only set one cost model scenario as active for a particular time period. The system uses the cost model scenario that you have set as Active for all cost model related data analysis. If a scenario is set to Active, the Activate option is not displayed on the window for that scenario.
Next, you can add cost models to the scenario as per your requirements. For more information about adding cost models, see Service-cost-modeler-user-interface.
