Initiating release request for a project

BMC Demand and Resource Management provides the capability to initiate and track all releases related to a project. A user of BMC Demand and Resource Management can initiate a release request from the BMC Demand and Resource Management user interface. The software automatically generates a corresponding release request in BMC Change Management application. The IT staff uses BMC Remedy Change Management to complete the work on a release. The release status in BMC Demand and Resource Management is updated to reflect the state of the release request in BMC Remedy Change Management System.
Once you add the release requests in BMC Remedy Change Request System through BMC Demand and Resource Management, you can edit the request to add work information in BMC IT Business Management System.

To initiate a release request

  1. In the Project Details window, click the Change and Release tab .
  2. In the Change and Release tab, click on Related Releases option.
  3. In the Related Releases pane, click on Add.
The New Related Release window is displayed.
  4. From the Template menu, select a template to use.
  5. In the Summary field, specify a brief description of the release.
  6. To reflect the extent to which the release affects the business, select Impact.
The default value is 3-Moderate/Limited. Impact is often directly related to the extent to which the service has degraded from agreed service levels. Impact can be measured by the number of people affected, the criticality of the system affected, and the loss of revenue as a result of the service degradation or disruption.
  7. To indicate the importance the requester assigns to the release request, select Urgency.
Urgency reflects how quickly a release must be implemented, or the time available to reduce the impact of the release on the business. The default value of the Urgency field is 4-Low.
  8. In the Target Date field, enter a date.
The target date is the date by when the release must be completed for the purpose of completion of the project.
  9. Optionally, in the Notes field, specify a more detailed description of the release.
  10. Click Save.
The release is displayed in the Related Releases pane. A Release ID is associated with each new release that you create. You can view the details of the release by clicking on the Release ID in the Related Releases pane.
