Shifting project dates in a staff allocation scenario

You can create a variation of staff allocation in a staff allocation scenario by changing the start date of a project in the portfolio. This lets you compare staff allocation if a project or set of projects have a different start date.

For example, a portfolio has two projects that require 10 resources each month for the selected fiscal year. You have total of 5 resources available for first six months and a total of 20 resources available after that. You create a staff allocation scenario for this portfolio and notice that you do not have enough resources for the first six months. You can now create another scenario where you move the start date of one project to start after 6 months. Therefore the resource allocation for remaining project for first 6 months is complete and at the same time you have enough resources for next six months.

To shift project dates in a staff allocation scenario

1. From the list of projects in the left pane of the Staff Scenario window, right-click on the project for which you need to modify the start date in the scenario.
2. Select the Shift Project Dates By option.
3. In the Shift Project Dates window, specify the number of months by which you need to move the project start date.
4. Select the direction as Forward or Backwards.
    Each option moves the project date forward or backward by the number of months that you specify.
5. Click OK.
