Migrating data to BMC Atrium CMDB

In version 3.8 of BMC IT Business Management Suite, all organizational units and people data was defined within the BMC IT Business Management Suite. In the current version of the software, an administrative-level user configures all data such as top-level company, organizational units, people, and support groups in BMC Remedy AR System. BMC Remedy AR System is also used to define permissions and access restrictions. You must configure this data in BMC Remedy AR system before getting started in BMC IT Business Management Suite.
You can use the ITBM 3.8 to 7.6.04 Upgrade Console migration utility to migrate your data to BMC Remedy AR System. When you migrate your user data from version 3.8 of the application to version 7.6.04, the migration utility:
- Prompts for a new operating company name. All organizational units are then moved under this operating company.
- Adds the operating company to the data access information for clients.
Assigns default view permissions to all clients.
- Assigns a BMC Remedy AR System floating license to all clients.
- Assigns the built-in administrator account, itmadm, to the out-of-the-box operating company profile, ITBM. In version 3.8, itmadm was available for an administrative-level user. After migrating the data to BMC remedy AR System, the itmadm account does not have data access to your operating company. If you were using this account to manage your operating company, you must add the information specific to your operating company in the itmadm user profile. Alternatively, you can create a new administrative-level user for your operating company. For more information about configuring a user profile, see Administering.
Before you begin
Before migrating the data, ensure that you do not have identical names for any two organizational units. You must have unique names for all organizational units. You can run the following SQL query to check for duplicate names:
The query returns duplicate names, if any, in your data.
BMC recommends backing up your existing installation. If any errors occur during the migration process, you might need to revert to the backup.
