Sizing and scaling recommendations

This section summarizes all performance and scalability recommendations that you can use for BMC IT Business Management Suite deployment capacity planning and performance trouble-shooting under certain circumstances.

  • BMC IT Business Management Suite core components and the JBoss Application Server should be installed on two separate systems.
  • BMC Remedy AR System can be installed on a standard VM slice with 4 vCPU/8 GB RAM, running on Windows 2008 R2, the database Server should be installed on a mid-range physical server with 8 cores/16 GB RAM, while the JBoss Server should be installed on a high-end physical server with at least 8 cores and 16 GB RAM.
  • JBoss Tunings on 64-bit Windows 2008 R2:
    • Use a 64-bit Java 6 JVM.
    • JVM min/max heap size should be initially set to 2048 MB
    • JVM MaxPermSize should be set to 512 MB.
    • Non-default Concurrent Mark and Sweep GC and oops compression do not seem to help improve JBoss server CPU utilizations or overall application
    • Set larger than default database connection pool sizes for handling more users.
