Configuring organizational unit hierarchy


After you have defined the operating company and organizational units in BMC Remedy AR System, you use the custom configuration in BMC AR System to define a hierarchy of your organization by creating relationships between the operating company and organizational units.

To configure organizational unit hierarchy

Use the Company Hierarchy Configuration form to configure the business unit hierarchy for your organization. In this form, you create the following relationships:

  • Relate one top-level organizational unit to fall under the operating company. You cannot relate multiple organizational units under an operating company.
  • Configure the organizational units to relate to either the top-level organizational unit or to other organizational units to mirror the functional hierarchy of your organization.
  1. From the Application Administration Console, click the Custom Configuration tab, shown in the following figure:

  2. From the Application Settings list, select IT Business Management > Advanced Options > Company Hierarchy Configuration, and click Open.

    The Company Hierarchy Configuration form is displayed, as shown in the following figure:

  3. Select Operating Company in the Type field.

    Selecting the type of company enables you to narrow the list of companies displayed in the Company field. 

    Note

    BMC IT Business Management supports two types of companies: Operating Company and Organizational Unit.

  4. Select the name of an operating company in the Company field.

    This company is the parent company of the child organizational unit that you specify in this form. An operating company can have only one child organizational unit. An organizational unit can have multiple child organizational units.
  5. Select Relate to specify the name of the child organizational unit.

    The Company Search form is displayed. The Type field in the form displays Organizational Unit in Company Type.
    1. Specify the name of the top-level organizational unit in the Company field.
    2. Click Relate.

      The top-level organizational unit is displayed in the Child Companies of field.
  6. Double-click the name of the top-level organizational unit.

    The Company Hierarchy Configuration form displays the top-level organizational unit information. The Type field displays Organizational Unit and Company displays the name of the top-level organizational unit.
  7. Select Relate to specify the name of the child organizational unit.

    You can relate multiple organizational units to the top-level organizational unit. The Type field in the Company Search form displays Organizational Unit in Company Type.
    1. Specify the name of the organizational unit in the Company field.
    2. Click Relate.

      The organizational unit is displayed in the Child Companies of field.
  8. Repeat steps 7a and 7b for all organizational units that you need to relate under the top-level organizational unit.
  9. To relate organizational units under other organizational units, select the parent organizational unit, click Relate and specify the name of the child organizational unit. Repeat this step to relate all organizational units in your company.
  10. Click Close.
