Configuring basic information in BMC Remedy AR System


Before you start configuring the BMC IT Business Management Suite for your organization, you must perform an initial setup in BMC Remedy Action Request System (BMC Remedy AR System). In BMC Remedy AR system, you add information to the applications about the various business units, people, and groups associated with your organization. You also define the permissions and access restrictions for people that you add for your organization.

To add information to BMC Remedy AR System, you must have the following prerequisites:

  • Basic knowledge of BMC Remedy AR System administration tasks.
  • Administrative-level permissions to configure applications in BMC Remedy AR System.

The following figure shows the tasks that you perform in BMC Remedy AR System.

  1. Log on to BMC Remedy AR System.
     To start the setup for BMC IT Business Management Suite in BMC Remedy AR System, open the Administration Console and perform the required standard and custom configuration.
  2. Create a top-level operating company (tenant company).
     Use the standard configuration to create an operating company in BMC Remedy AR System. For more information, see Configuring companies.
  3. Create a top-level organizational unit.
     Create a top-level organizational unit. The top-level organizational unit is related to the top-level tenant company. The hierarchy of all other organizational units is then related to the top-level organizational unit.
  4. Create organizational units.
     You can create organizational units to manage your data according to your defined company hierarchy in BMC Remedy AR System.
  5. Configure organizational hierarchy.
     BMC IT Business Management Suite can provide hierarchical data access based on the hierarchical structure of your organization. To use this capability, you define a hierarchical structure of your organization to indicate the relationships among different organizational units. Use the custom configuration in BMC Remedy AR System to configure the hierarchical structure of your organization.
  6. Add people information.
     To add users, you define basic information, such as logon IDs, passwords, permissions, and data access restrictions, in BMC Remedy AR System.
  7. Log on to BMC IT Business management Suite.
