Understanding staging tables

Staging import is the process by which you add the data from external systems or sources to the BMC IT Business Management Suite via the staging tables. These staging tables are a set of database tables that provide a temporary repository for data before it is loaded into the BMC IT Business Management Suite application database. As a general rule, each object in the application that has data in a table in the database has a corresponding staging table. For example, the data for asset information is held in the ITT_ASSET table, while the corresponding staging table for assets is called IDD_ASSET.

The actual import process takes the data in the staging table, validates it, and loads it into the BMC IT Business Management Suite repository. If errors are encountered with the data, the system records it and notifies the administrator. The administrator can then take action to correct the issue and re-import the data.

The staging tables described in this document are the preferred supported method of importing data into the BMC IT Business Management Suite.
