Modifying field labels
If you use the Metadata Editor to modify a field label, you cannot use term substitution to change that field label. For that field, you must use the Object Metadata screen for all subsequent changes to the field label, as described in this topic.
To use object metadata to modify the label for a field
- Go to http://<hostName>:<port>/itm/magick.do.
- hostName: Server on which is installed
- port: Port number, typically 7001
- Log on with your administrator user name and password.
The Object MetaData tab content appears, as shown in the following figure.
- From the Object Name list, select an object.
The fields appear that are available for the object that you selected.- The values in the Field Name column are internal to and are not visible in the user interface.
- The values in the Label column appear as the field labels in the user interface on related view and edit pages.
- In the Label column, locate the label that you want to modify.
In the row that contains the label that you want to modify, click Edit in the Actions column.
The Edit Metadata Field window appears for the field name that you selected.- In the Label field, enter the new name for the label.
In the Tooltip field, enter the text that you want to display as the tooltip.
When you have added tooltip text, the field label appears in the user interface with a dotted underline, and the tooltip appears when the cursor moves over the label. To turn off a tooltip, delete all the text from this field. Tooltips do not appear for all fields.(Optional) To make this field a required field, select the Required check box.
(Optional) To make this field visible on view and edit screens, select the Visible check box.
If check boxes appear for more than one screen, select the screens on which to display this field.- (Optional) To specify that this field should be ignored when the database is updated by an import process that uses staging tables, select Manual Update.
- Click Save to save your changes and return to the Object Metadata screen.
