Using log files

Use logs to verify the operations that an application is performing, the interaction between a client and server, and the operations that result in errors. Logs help you gather information to identify the causes of performance issues or errors. If you need to contact BMC Support, having the appropriate log files ready can help resolve many issues more quickly.

Each log file has a default location and a default log file name, or you can direct the log output to a directory and file that you select.

Warning

Do not leave logging turned on indefinitely because log files can grow very large and will consume disk space.

Some types of server logging can affect system performance.

Therefore, turn on log files to capture the information you need, and then turn the logging option off when you are finished.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
