Creating a change request
Before you begin
Understand the stages of a change request. For more information, see Stages of a change request in theBMC Helix ITSM: Change Management online documentation portal.
To create a change request at the Initiate stage
The Change Initiation and Recording stage is a mandatory stage and the starting point of the change request lifecycle. This stage collects the prerequisite information that is required to create a change request.
For more information, see Creating a change request at the Initiate stage in theBMC Helix ITSM: Change Management online documentation portal.
To create an emergency change request
An emergency change is implemented when an incident requires a change. Depending on how your application administrator has configured the Change Management application, emergency change requests bypass the normal approval process. When you create an emergency change, the new approval process phase will bypass the normal change states. For example, if emergency requests are configured to bypass the Review approval stage, the change is automatically approved and not held up waiting for approvals. The request skips to the next stage in its lifecycle. You can also relate problem records to the emergency change.
For more information, see Creating an emergency change request in theBMC Helix ITSM: Change Management online documentation portal.
To create a change request by copying an existing change request
You can create a change request quickly by copying an existing change request. The new change request copies most of the content, such as Summary, Change Type, Impacted areas, CIs, tasks from the existing change request. You cannot copy the following information: Date, Assignment, Location, and Work Notes, Provider actions, and expressions. You can select values from the fields that you want to retain from the existing change request into the copied change request.
For more information, see Creating a change request by copying an existing change request in theBMC Helix ITSM: Change Management online documentation portal.
To create a change request by using a change template
The Change Template function enables you to select any templates for your support group. Use change templates to quickly and efficiently create standard change requests with a minimum of mouse clicks and keystrokes. Change templates are useful for creating a change request that follows well-defined methods for specific and repeated requirements such as Installs, Moves, and Add Changes. Change templates are most helpful to new and occasional Change Management users.
