Analyzing the risk and impact of change requests

The Authorization for Business Assessment is the first approval stage of a change request, also referred to as the Business Approval stage. The purpose of this stage is to assess both the IT and the business impact, to ensure that the change request can be successfully implemented with a minimal or no impact on the business services while meeting your business requirements. The service owners are typically involved in this approval phase.

For more information, see Analyzing the risk and impact of change requests in the Review and Authorize stage in theBMC Helix ITSM: Change Management online documentation portal.

To access the risk for a change request

If Change risk management is enabled, you can view the overall risk factors associated with a change request in the IS-based calendar. Use this AI-suggested information to assess the risk of a change request and make a well-informed decision to approve, hold, or reject a change request without manually evaluating the risks.

For more information, see Assessing the risk for a change request in theBMC Helix ITSM: Change Management online documentation portal.

To compute risk levels

To support best practices for the risk assessment process for change requests, you can have the system compute the risk level.

For more information, see Computing risk levels in theBMC Helix ITSM: Change Management online documentation portal.

To calculate risk

Risks can be configured within a change template and are applied when the template is used to create a change. Additionally, risk calculations can be configured on the Risk Factor Configuration form. Configuring risk factors overrides any risks set in the change template.

For more information, see Risk recalculation in theBMC Helix ITSM: Change Management online documentation portal.
