Running a quick impact simulation

To view the impact results of an unavailable CI, you can run a impact simulation in the CMDB Explorer. You can expand the CI to view all related CIs and their relationships, and the impact on each CI.

To run a quick impact simulation from CMDB Explorer

  1. On the BMC Helix CMDB dashboard, search for a CI for which you want to perform a quick impact simulation.
  2. Select the CI and open it in CMDB Explorer.
  3. On the CMDB Explorer, right-click the CI and select Simulate Impact.

The CMDB Explorer displays the impact on the service model if the CI is unavailable.  The following figure shows the impact on a business service if a CI is unavailable. The Indicators panel shows the various states of the impacted CI.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
