Reviewing changes in the Sandbox dataset

At any given time, BMC Helix CMDB can contain more than one instance that represents the same real-world configuration item (CI). These instances can reside in different datasets.

Use CMDB Explorer to compare Sandbox CIs with the production dataset so that you can analyze manual changes made to the CIs.

Note

You can search for CIs only from your own sandbox dataset by using CMDB Explorer.

To compare Sandbox instances with the production dataset

Perform the following steps to compare Sandbox instances with the BMC.ASSET dataset:

  1. in the CMDB Portal, search for a CI for which you want to view details.
  2. On the search results page, click the CI and open it in the CMDB Explorer.
The default view shown is a view-only mode, in which you can only view the CIs in the CMDB Explorer.
You can edit a CI only in the edit mode.
Switch to edit mode using the Edit Mode toggle switch. The CI is opened in the Sandbox view.
  3. Right-click the CI and click Show CI Details

The results table displays the CI attribute values stored in Sandbox and BMC.ASSET datasets.
The table also show CI attributes that have been changed (identified with a pencil icon) or newly added (identified with an asterix) as shown in the following figure.
