Migrating from SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 to SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.0

To perform the migration, use the Upgrade Management Tool that is available in SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.0 and use the SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0 files that you downloaded from the BMC Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) web page.

Before you begin

If you are upgrading BMC Analytics for BSM, you must have already removed the fiscal calendar form from BMC Remedy AR System or configured the BMC Atrium Single Sign-On environment.

Importing the BIAR files into SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.0

You can perform either of the following procedures to import the BIAR files created from SAP BusinessObjects XI 3.1 version using the Upgrade Management Tool:

  • Complete Upgrade—This procedure copies all the objects and files from the BIAR file to the destination system (SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.0) and upgrades them with the default options. The BIAR file contents for SAP BusinessObjects XI 3.1 (source system) are not modified.
  • Incremental Upgrade—This procedure copies only those objects and files that you select, from the BIAR file to the destination system (SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.0) and upgrades them with the options that you specify. The BIAR file contents for SAP BusinessObjects XI 3.1 (source system) are not modified.

Complete Upgrade

Follow the steps given below to import the BIAR files into SAP Business Objects BI 4.0 using the Complete Upgrade procedure:

  1. Go to Start > SAP BusinessObjects BI platform 4 > SAP BusinessObjects BI platform and click Upgrade Management Tool.
  2. On the Welcome to upgrade management tool screen, select Complete Upgrade and click Next.
  3. On the Log On screen, for Upgrade Scenario, BIAR to Live:
    • Under Source, select the BIAR file location.
    • Under Destination, provide the credentials of the SAP 4.0 environment.
  4. Click Next.
  5. On the Summary screen, where all the objects are selected and are ready to be imported, click Start.

Once the upgrade procedure is completed, the Upgrade Completed message is displayed.

Incremental Upgrade

Follow the steps given below to import the BIAR files into SAP Business Objects BI 4.0 using the Incremental Upgrade procedure:

  1. Go to Start > SAP BusinessObjects BI platform 4 > SAP BusinessObjects BI platform and click Upgrade Management Tool.
  2. On the Welcome to upgrade management tool screen, select Incremental Upgrade and click Next.
  3. On the Log On screen, for Upgrade Scenario, BIAR to Live:
    • Under Source, select the BIAR file location.
    • Under Destination, provide the credentials of the SAP 4.0 environment.
  4. Click Next.

  5. On the Object Selection screen, select the required objects such as Folders and Objects, Universes etc.

    Note

     If you select the Universe option, on the right side under the Contents section, select Export this object and its dependencies.

  6. Click Next.
  7. Verify the selected options and click Start.
  8. On the Summary screen, where the objects that you have selected are displayed and are ready to be imported, click Start.

Once the upgrade procedure is completed, the Upgrade Completed message is displayed.
