Business service models

A business service model is an extensible system that defines the various resources that deliver business services, models their behaviors and functional relationships, and manages the delivery of the resulting services. BMC Analytics for BSM supports three types of analysis on the business service models in BMC Atrium CMDB: Business Service Profile analysis, Impact analysis, and Ad hoc analysis.

The ITSM universe has all the data elements that are related to the business service models exposed as part of the classes, objects, and conditions. This enables the business user to perform ad hoc analysis on the business service models in tandem with the data coming from other modules. Specifically, the business user will be able to do cross-functional reporting from the business service model to BMC Incident Management, BMC Change Management, and other modules in the ITSM universe.

The database procedures for populating and updating the table traverse the CMDB data relationship and capture the provider/consumer (parent/child) tree for all of the business services and display the data in the reports.

The current solution only works for the dependency relationships that are created in BMC Atrium CMDB.

The following BMC_BaseRelationship types are supported:

  • BMC_Component
  • BMC_Dependency
  • BMC_MemberOfCollection

The screenshots in the following figures show the details of where the related objects and conditions exist in the universe. They primarily are hosted in the BMC Atrium CMDB module under the class with the name Business Service Model.
