Copying and modifying a predefined report

This section provides instructions for modifying a copy of a predefined report.

Before you begin

Before you create reports by using this option, ensure that you have the following information and items:

  • Prior knowledge about the classes and objects in the universe
  • A folder not provided by BMC in which you can store the edited report

    Warning

If you do not create a separate folder for new reports, the reports get overwritten during an upgrade.

  • An account that has access to the data on which you want to report

For users to manage reports (for example, refresh data, schedule reports, and generate new reports) in BMC Analytics for BSM, the account they use when they log on to SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise must be the same user as the user that has access to the BMC product (BMC Remedy AR System user, for example) and that resides on the BMC Atrium Single Sign-On server (if you are using BMC Atrium Single Sign-On as your authentication). If the user does not exist on the SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise server, you must create it.

To copy and modify a report

  1. Log on to the BI launch pad.
    1. Navigate to the Documents tab.
    2. In the Folders menu, expand Public Folders and then BMC Analytics for BSM.
    3. Expand the BMC Analytics subfolder that contains the report you want to copy and modify.
    4. Click Organize > Copy.
    5. Locate and select the folder where you want to put the copy.
    6. Click Organize > Paste.
    7. Navigate to the folder where you copied the report.
    8. Launch Web Intelligence by right-clicking the report that you want to modify and selecting Modify or by selecting Web Intelligence from the My Applications module.
The objects for the selected report appear on the Data tab.
    9. Modify the report by performing one or more of the following steps:
      • To add objects to the report, drag them from the Data tab to the report.
      • To remove objects from the report, drag them from the report to the Data tab.
      • Modify the report layouts and edit queries and conditions for the report. For information about report layouts, see the SAP-BusinessObjects-Business-Intelligence-documentation. For the list of conditions available for each report, see Report-conditions. For more detail about the queries, see ITSM-universe-classes-objects-conditions-and-views.

        Note

        • If the View Structure button is unavailable, turn the drill option off by clicking the drill icon in the top-right corner. After the reports are modified, you can turn the drill option back on by clicking the same drill icon.
        • BMC Analytics for BSM does not support queries that use objects from multiple application folders. For example, the product does not support a query that contains objects from the Asset Management folder and the Incident Management folder. To generate a report that includes Incidents that relate to Assets, select the Asset ID object, navigate to Asset Management > Asset Information > Asset Relationships, and then use the objects contained within the Incidents Related to Assets subfolder.

    10. Click Run Query in the Header panel to run the report.
      The Prompts dialog box appears.
  2. Click Run Query again.
    The report is displayed.
  3. Click Save from the Header panel to save the report.
  4. Record the the modifications that you performed to the report. For guidelines and information, see Report-customization-template.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
