Upgrading

This section presents the following options for upgrading BMC Analytics for Business Service Management (BMC Analytics for BSM):

  • If you use a linked universe, you can upgrade the product to replace the master universe. In that scenario, your customizations are maintained in your linked universe. You then perform an extra step to verify the link between the new master universe and your linked universe.
  • If you do not use the linked universe feature, you must perform steps to ensure that your customizations are recorded, upgrade the product, then reapply your customizations. BMC recommends that you create a linked universe and apply your customizations to the linked universe so that you do not have to manually reapply the customizations for a future upgrade.
Warning

Installing a newer version of the product overwrites the reports, database connection, universe, and any customizations to the universe or reports. If you do not use the linked universe, back up your existing reports and universe and ensure that you have recorded any customizations before proceeding with the upgrade.

Upgrading when you are migrating from SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 to SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.0 or 4.1

Use either of the following scenarios, according to whether you use a linked universe.

Upgrading the product if you use a linked universe

If you use a linked universe, use the procedures listed in the following table to upgrade the product:

Note: BMC Analytics for BSM version 8.1.00 supports SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.0 Service Pack 6 or later and SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.1 Service Pack 1 or later.

Install version 8.1.00 of BMC Analytics for BSM.

Validate the linked universe.

Upgrading the product if you do not use a linked universe

If you do not use a linked universe, use the steps in the following table to upgrade the product:
