Working with logs
This topic describes the log files that are available to help you troubleshoot issues.
BMC Analytics for BSM installation log file
The BMC Analytics for BSM installation log file (analytics_install_log.txt) can be found at the following locations:
- The current user's temporary directory:
- For Microsoft Windows—%TEMP%
- For UNIX—/tmp
- The Logs folder in the BMC Analytics installation directory (for example, C:\Program Files\BMC Software\Analytics\Logs)
SAP BusinessObjects log files
The SAP BusinessObjects log files are located in the SAP BusinessObjects logging directory at <SAPBusinessObjectsInstallationDirectory>\BusinessObjects Enterprise 12.0\Logging.
Use the SAP BusinessObjects log files to determine the cause of outages or issues. Enable the auditing of events and select the events that you want to log under each server (for servers such as the connection server, job server, and report application server).
When there is an outage, collect the server logs, event viewer logs, central management server logs, and web event logs for the server processes running on the SAP BusinessObjects XI server. For more information about the warnings that appear in the event viewer logs, see BMC Software KB Article KA416758 on the BMC Software support site.
Recommendations
BMC recommends that you monitor the following items to prevent SAP BusinessObjects server outages:
Temporary folder space. The temporary folder should be cleaned up on a regular basis to provide enough space for the SAP BusinessObjects services. A lack of space can cause the services (including the Web Intelligence Processing server) to go down, which will prevent you from using the SAP BusinessObjects BI launch pad for reporting.
- The memory thresholds, timeout settings, and cache size settings, which can be defined and changed in the Web Intelligence Processing server properties
- Single sign-on timeout, reporting service viewing, and modification-related parameters, which can be defined in the Report Application Server properties
- Logging directory space. The logging directory should be periodically cleaned by deleting the files.
