Multitenancy

The information in this topic applies to you if you use BMC Remedy AR System as your data source.

Multitenancy means that a single instance of the software runs on a server, serving multiple companies (tenants). With a multitenant architecture, the software is designed to virtually partition its data and configuration, and each company works with a customized virtual application instance. Within the BMC Remedy ITSM suite applications, multitenancy enables you to control which records and configuration data are exposed to a user, based on the user's membership in a company, business unit, or other group.

You can use multitenancy to control access in a hosted environment. For example, in a service provider environment, a single BMC Remedy ITSM suite application might be used by multiple companies, with the data for each company hidden from the other companies using the application. You can also use multitenancy to control access in a single company, with the data for each business unit hidden from other business units.

For BMC Analytics for Business Service Management, in a multitenant environment, though multiple companies may share a BMC Remedy AR System server, a company can only view their own data in the reports and not the data from other companies.

For more information about supporting multitenancy in the BMC Analytics for BSM product, see Supporting-multitenancy.
