Adding Custom Fields using Extension Containers

The BMC Helix Portfolio Management environment provides users with the option to create additional custom fields for the record views of different root objects (such as project, portfolio, idea, demand and so on) to add more information to the records.

Important

Record View is a term used for the user interfaces available for any record on the HPM environment. For example, the views to create or edit all of the ppm root objects.

Each record view within the Portfolio Management application comes with numerous out-of-the-box fields to specify various details of the record. However, there could be a requirement for some additional fields for different types of records depending on the business use cases. For example, in addition to the default fields in the Project Views, a company may require a field, say “Project field A”, for an internal use case. In such cases, the user can configure this custom field for all the Project Views.

These extension containers play a significant role in enhancing the flexibility and customization of different record views within the Portfolio Management application. By understanding and utilizing the extension containers effectively, users can adapt and tailor their systems to meet their specific business requirements.

Users can configure these custom fields within the BMC Helix Innovation Studio, provided they have access to the application.

This topic will guide you on how to configure these custom fields and what extension container can be utilized for which record view. The process has the following major steps:
