Configuring Skill Area
The Manage Skill Areas console contains the list of Skill Areas and provides functionality to add, remove or modify the Skill Areas. This console is accessible by the users with Resource Manager role.
A Skill Area represents the mid-level within the skill management hierarchy. A Skill Area Group can have multiple Skill Areas which can have multiple Skills within them.
Every Skill Area has an associated Skill Area Group which is further associated with the Resource Group. The manager of that Resource Group stays responsible for managing the Skill Area along with the Skill Area Group.
To Access the Manage Skill Areas Console
- Log in to the Portfolio Management application and click Settings .
- Select Resource Management > Competencies > Skill Area. The console will have the list of Skill Areas. See the screenshot below.
- Click the Managed Skill Areas button, if you are a Resource Manager and want to see the Skill Areas that are associated with the Skill Area Groups that are managed by you.
- Click All to see all the Skill Areas.
To create a Skill Area
- Log in to the Portfolio Management application and click Settings .
- Select Resource Management > Competencies > Skill Area.

New to add a new Skill Area and fill in the below details.
Field
Description
Skill Area Group
Select one of the Skill Area Groups from the dropdown. The dropdown shows all the active Skill Area Groups.
Skill Area
Add the name of the Skill Area.
Click Localize and fill the name in the Default locale field.
Status
Not visible in this blade, the status field has two options namely, Active and Inactive. By default, during the creation of a Skill Area, the status stays Active.
To restrict the use of the created Skill Area, you need to Edit the saved Skill Area and change the status to Inactive. This will disallow the creation of new Skills under this Skill Area.
4. Click Save.
To Modify/Edit a Skill Area
- Log in to the Portfolio Management application and click Settings .
- Select Resource Management > Competencies > Skill Area.
- Click the name of the Skill Area or select the row and click on the Edit ( ) button. This will show you the details that you provided while creating the Skill Area and an additional Status field.
- Apply the changes and click Save.
To Delete a Skill Area
- Log in to the Portfolio Management application and click Settings .
- Select Resource Management > Competencies > Skill Area.
- Select the Skill Area to delete and click on the Delete ( ) button.
