Creating Programs


This topic guides you on how to create new Programs. For a quick introduction and life cycle of Program Management, refer to Program-Management-Overview. These operations can be performed by Portfolio Managers and Portfolio Masters.

To create a new Program

  1. Log in to the Portfolio Management application and select Create > Program.
  2. On the Create Program page, enter the values for the following fields:

    Field Labels

    Description

    Program Summary

    Enter a heading or short summary of the Program which describes the objective.

    Description

    This is a special type of field to add a detailed description of the Program. This rich text editor supports basic formatting, images, tables, and hyperlink.

    You may enter details like the objective, and goal which is fulfilled by addressing this Program. 

    Associated Portfolio

    Click Associate and select the portfolio with which you want to associate the program. 

    Program Manager

    A user with Portfolio Manager/Master role can be assigned as the Program manager.

    Importance

    Rank the importance of the Program from 1 to 10.

    Rank 1 means lower importance, 10 means higher importance.

    Strategic

    If the Program strategic or not. Select Yes or No

    Total Risk

    Rank the risk level (or number of risks) of the Program from 1 to 10.

    Rank 1 means lower risk, 10 means higher risk.

    Value

    Rank the value of the Program from 1 to 10.

    Rank 1 means lower value, 10 means higher value.

    Start Date

    Start date of the Program.

    End Date

    The tentative end date of the Program.

    Target Date

    The tentative target date on which the Program is expected to close.

  3. Click Save. The new project is created and opened in Ramp up status.

To create a new Program from the portfolio

  1. Log in to the Portfolio Management application.
  2. Navigate to Portfolios and click one of the give categories - Business or Application Portfolio. This will redirect you to the respective portfolio console.
  3. To open the portfolio, click the corresponding portfolio ID.
  4. Go to the Programs tab and click +Program.
  5. On the Create Program page, enter the values for the following fields:

  6.  Click Save. The new project is created and opened in Ramp up status.
