Project Import Overview

The Project Import is a specialized feature within the Helix Portfolio Management app, designed to facilitate the seamless import of a Project.

The Project Import or the Project Import page is termed as Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) Import Manager. The term originates from project management methodologies and refers to the hierarchical decomposition of a project into manageable components. This approach allows for better planning, execution, and tracking of projects.

At present, this feature is specifically designed to work with projects that are created and exported from the Microsoft Project application. It supports .XML files exported from the MS Project app. The .XML format ensures data integrity and compatibility, preserving the structure, relationships, and metadata of the original project file during the import process.

Why Use the WBS Import Manager?

  • Simplifies the migration of projects from MS Project to Helix, eliminating the need for manual re-entry of data.
  • Ensure the imported project's structure aligns with the WBS methodology.
  • Organizes imported projects under a specified Portfolio or Program.
  • Allows users to assign key project attributes such as Behavior type and Project Manager.
  • Retains key details such as task hierarchies, predecessors-successors and timelines from the original project.
