Creating sprints


This topic guides you on how to create new Sprints in an Agile project. For a quick introduction and the life cycle of the sprint, you can refer to Project Management Overview.

These operations can be performed by the Project Manager of the project, the Portfolio/Program Manager of the portfolio/program, the Project Masters, Portfolio Masters and the Project Manager with write additional access to the project.

To create a new sprint

  1. Log in to the Portfolio Management application
  2. Navigate to Workspaces > Projects.
  3. To open a project on the Projects workspace, click the required agile project ID.
  4. On the project details page, go to the Sprint tab and click the New Sprint button.
  5. On the create sprint blade page, enter the values for the following fields:

    Field Labels

    Description

    Summary 

    Enter a short summary of the sprint which describes the objective.

    Start Date 

    Estimated start date of the sprint. The start date has to be after the start date of the project.

    End Date 

    Estimated end date of the sprint. The end date has to be before the end date of the project.

    Priority 

    Critical, High, Medium, Low.

    Sprint Manager

    Persona who monitors and manages all the details of the sprint.

    Description

    This is a special type of field which supports basic formatting, images, tables, and hyperlink. Enter details of the sprint.

    Attachments

    Any useful information or use cases for better understanding attachments can be associated here.

  6. Click Save. The new sprint is created in 'New' status. You can see the new sprint in the list in the Sprint tab. 

To create a new sprint by using a sprint template

  1. Log in to the Portfolio Management application
  2. Navigate to Workspaces > Projects.
  3. To open an Agile project on the Projects workspace, click the required agile project ID.
  4. On the project details page, go to the Sprint tab and click the New Sprint button.
  5. On the create sprint blade page, click Select Template.
  6. On the Select Sprint Template page, there is a list of the available sprint templates, select a sprint template from the list and click Select.
  7. Enter and review the values (some of them are copied from the template) for the following fields: 

    Field Labels

    Description

    Template

    Name of the sprint template applied, you cannot modify this field.

    Summary 

    Summary copied from a template.

    Start Date 

    Estimated start date of the sprint. The start date has to be after the start date of the project.

    End Date 

    Once the start date is filled, the end date is populated automatically with respect to the Duration from the template and start date.

    Priority 

    Priority copied from a template.

    Sprint Manager

    Persona who monitors and manages all the details of the sprint.

    Description

    Description copied from a template.

  8. Click Save. The new sprint is created and opened in the 'Plan/Prepare' status. Tasks have been created and related to the new sprint automatically from tasks templates related to the sprint template applied.

To create new sprints by using a project template

The project manager and portfolio/program manager can create several sprints at the same time by selecting sprints templates from a project template.

  1. Log in to the Portfolio Management application
  2. Navigate to Workspaces > Projects.
  3. To open an Agile project on the Projects workspace, click the required agile project ID.
  4. On the project details page, go to the Sprint tab.
  5. Click Create from Project Template bottom.
  6. A blade page is opened with the list of project templates.
  7. Select a project template, and then select the sprints templates from the list of sprint templates. 
  8. Click Create Sprints.   

Important

Initially, new sprints are created with the values from sprint templates. Project start date is copied in the start dates of the sprints created, and end dates are specified in order to the template Duration.   



 

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
