BMC Helix Portfolio Management is an application designed to manage end-to-end processes within the portfolio to achieve precise business objectives. From an Idea/Requirement through demand management with implementation via Programs and Projects, the application provides a streamlined framework for the efficient execution of different business processes. Manage your portfolio as a manager, and never lose track of your requirements. 

Product Roles

The BMC Helix Portfolio Management supports several different roles, each with its own goals and responsibilities. The following table describes the capabilities of each role.

  • Creates and manages users and user access permissions.
  • Configures the application settings post-deployment.
  • Tailors application overall modules.
  • Holds create, and update access for all modules in the Portfolio Management application

Portfolio Master

  • Creates and manages all Portfolios and Programs.
  • Holds create, and update access for all modules in the Portfolio Management application.
  • Tailors application overall modules.
  • Can submit idea from BMC Helix Digital Workplace
  • Vote up and Vote down all other ideas present in the system.

Project Master

  • Creates and manages all projects.
  • Manage assignments for all projects.
  • Tailors Project Management.
  • Can submit idea from BMC Helix Digital Workplace.
  • Vote up and Vote down all other ideas present in the system.

Resource Master

  • Creates and manages all resource requests, resource assignments, timecards, resource planning, and qualifications.
  • Tailors Resource Management.
  • Configures application settings related to resource management.
  • Can log timecards and add his/ her own qualifications.

Idea Manager

  • Creates and manages ideas.
  • Reviews and then approves or rejects ideas.
  • Tailors Idea Management.
  • Can submit idea from BMC Helix Digital Workplace.
  • Vote up and Vote down all other ideas present in the system.

Demand Manager

  • Creates and manages all demands.
  • Reviews approve demands.
  • Creates and manages requirements, risks, stakeholders, and resources.
  • Tailors Demand Management.
  • Can submit idea from BMC Helix Digital Workplace.
  • Vote up and Vote down all other ideas present in the system.

Project Manager

  • Manage assigned projects to the Project Manager.
  • Creates and manages Sprints, Tasks, Requirements, and Teams.
  • Can submit idea from BMC Helix Digital Workplace.
  • Vote up and Vote down all other ideas present in the system.

Portfolio Manager

  • Creates and manages portfolios assigned to the Portfolio Manager.
  • Creates and manages programs for which they are assigned as the Program Manager.
  • Creates and manages projects, requirements, demands, and ideas.
  • Tailors Portfolio Management.
  • Can submit idea from BMC Helix Digital Workplace.
  • Vote up and Vote down all other ideas present in the system.

Resource Manager

  • Creates and manages resource requests assigned to the Resource Manager.
  • Creates and manages resource assignments, timecards, and resource qualifications.
  • Can log timecards and add his/ her own qualifications.

Idea Contributor

  • Creates and manages ideas created by Idea Contributor.
  • Can submit idea from BMC Helix Digital Workplace.
  • View other ideas.
  • Vote up and Vote down all other ideas present in the system.

Demand Contributor

  • Creates and manages demands created by Demand Contributor.
  • Creates and manages requirements, risks, stakeholders, and resources.
  • Can submit idea from BMC Helix Digital Workplace.
  • Vote up and Vote down all other ideas present in the system.

Project Task User

  • Creates and manages tasks created by Project task users.
  • Views Projects, Sprints, and Ideas.
  • Can submit idea from BMC Helix Digital Workplace.
  • Vote up and Vote down all other ideas present in the system.

Resource Contributor

  • Can log timecards if he is assigned to 
  • Manage Qualifications related to the user.

Idea Management

Generate and manage ideas in the digital workplace and create demands and requirements. Empower portfolio and product manager with a holistic view.

Demand Management

Manage business demands with risks, stakeholders, requirements, and resources. Initiate projects and collaborate with required people and organizations

Project Management

Start your agile or phased project from a global view of your backlog. Manage your teams, sprints or phases, and all tasks. Plan the project based on visual Gantt and Kanban support.

Portfolio Management

Manage your portfolio as a portfolio or Product Manager. The portfolio gives you a single point of view on ideas, requirements, demands, and projects. There is no longer a requirement that is ignored. 

Program Management

A subsection of Portfolio, designed to collaboratively manage Projects that shares the same business objective or are related to each other. It also contains and manages ideas, requirements, and demands created within it.

Resource Management

Request and assign resources which enable users to log timecards. The Resource Management module consists of Resource Requests, Resource Assignments, Timecards, and Virtual Timecards.

To create new log timecards. Add qualifications.
