Creating and modifying sprint-phase templates
This topic guides you on how Project Managers can submit and edit Sprint-Phase Templates.
To create a Sprint-Phase Template
- Log in to the Portfolio Management application and click on Settings .
- Go to Project Management > Sprint-Phase Templates.
- Click on the '+ Sprint Phase Template' button to add a new task template.
On the Add Sprint-Phase Template page, complete the Sprint-Phase fields as explained in the following table:

Define the title of the sprint or phase created by using this template.
Priority
Specify the priority of the sprint or phase created by using this template.
Description
Add a description for the sprint or phase created by using this template.
Duration
Duration in days, End Date field for the sprint or phase created by using this template is completed automatically in order this value and Start Date value.
Automatic Closure
Select the Automatic Closure value ('Yes' or 'No') for the sprint or phase created by using this template.
Complete the template metadata fields as explained in the following table:

Name of the new sprint-phase template.
Status
Select one of the following statuses:
- Draft: this is the default status of a new template.
In the Draft status, the template is not available for use. - Active: the template is available for use.
Important: only active templates are searchable and available for use. - Inactive: the template is redundant, and no longer in use.
Type
Select one of the following type values:
- Sprint: only in Agile Projects will be available this template to create Sprints.
- Phase: only in Phased Projects will be available this template to create Phases.
- Both: are available in Agile and Phased Projects to create Sprints or Phases.
Template Description
Description of the purpose of the template or Notes about the template.
- Draft: this is the default status of a new template.
- Click Save.
- After you create the sprint-phase template, you can add task templates to the template. When the sprint or phase is created using the template, the tasks are created using the task templates related, also the subtasks are created using the subtask templates contained in these task templates.
- Go to the Project Task Templates tab.
- Click the Relate Project Task Templates button.
- A blade window appears with the list of active task templates.
- Select the task template that you want to relate to and click the 'Select' button and the blade window is closed.
- The list of the related task templates is refreshed with the task template selected.
- The duration field is updated automatically in the template in order with the Duration of the task templates related.
- Once task templates are added to the sprint-phase template, you can specify Predecessors-Successors relationships between the task templates. When the sprint or phase is created using the template, the tasks are created using task templates related, and also Predeccesor-Successor relationships are created between the tasks using Predecessors-Successors relationships defined between the task templates.
- Go to the Project Task Templates tab.
- Select the task template related that which you want to specify a predecessor or successor task template.
- Click the < New button if you want to specify a predecessor task template or the > New button for a successor task template.
- A blade window appears with the list of the others tasks templates related to the sprint-phase template.
- Select the task template and click the Select button and the blade window is closed.
- The list of the Predecessor or Successor task templates is refreshed for the selected task template.
- The duration field is updated automatically in the sprint-phase template in order with the Duration of the task templates related and the Predecessor and Successor relationships between them.
To modify a Sprint-Phase Template
- Log in to the Portfolio Management application and click on Settings .
- Go to Project Management > Sprint-Phase Templates.
- Click on the Template Name link of the sprint-phase template that you want to modify.
- Templates with a Status is 'Active' cannot be modified. To modify the Status:
- Click the Edit button in the Metadata section.
- Change Status value to Draft or Inactive.
- Click Save.
- Click the Edit button in the sprint-phase template fields section.
- Make the necessary modifications.
- Click Save.
- Active the template by modifying the Status to Active in the Metadata section (as explained in point 4).
