Configuring Skill Area Group
The Manage Skill Area Groups console contains the list of Skill Area Groups and provides functionality to add, remove or modify the Skill Area Groups. This console is accessible by the users with the resource manager role.
A Skill Area Group represents the highest level within the skill management hierarchy. A Skill Area Group can have multiple Skill Areas which can have multiple Skills within them.
Every Skill Area Group have an associated Resource Group and the manager of that Resource Group stays responsible for managing the Skill Area Group.
To Access the Manage Skill Area Groups Console
- Log in to the Portfolio Management application and click Settings.
- Select Resource Management > Competencies > Skill Area Group. The console will have the list of Skill Area Groups. See the screenshot below.
- Click the Managed Skill Area Groups button, if you are a Resource Manager and want to see the Skill Area Groups that are associated with the Resource Groups that are managed by you.
- Click All to see all the Skill Area Groups.

To create a Skill Area
- Log in to the Portfolio Management application and click Settings .
- Select Resource Management > Competencies > Skill Area Group.
Click New to add a new Skill Area Group and fill in the below details.

Managing Resource Group
Select one of the Resource Groups from the dropdown. The dropdown shows all the active resource groups.

Add the name of the Skill Area Group.
Click Localize and fill the name in the Default locale field.
Service Management
Status
The status field has two options namely, Active and Inactive. By default, during the creation of a Skill Area Group, the status stays Active.
To restrict the use of the created Skill Area Group, you need to Edit the saved Skill Area Group and change the status to Inactive. This will disallow the creation of new Skill Areas under this Skill Area Group.
4. Click Save.
To modify or edit a Skill Area Group
- Log in to the Portfolio Management application and click Settings .
- Select Resource Management > Competencies > Skill Area Group.
- Click on the name of the Skill Area Group or select the row and click on the Edit () button. This will show you the details that you provided while creating the Skill Area Group and an additional Status field.
- Apply the changes and click Save.
To delete a Skill Area Group
- Log in to the Portfolio Management application and click Settings .
- Select Resource Management > Competencies > Skill Area Group.
- Select the Skill Area Group to delete and click on the Delete () button.
