Configuring Transaction Scopes
A Transaction Scope defines the coverage or boundary within which financial transactions are recorded and managed in a Financial Dataset. It helps categorise transactions based on specific criteria, such as a department, project, business unit, or the entire organisation. By defining a clear scope, the Helix Portfolio Management application ensures that financial data is organised systematically, making it easier to track, analyse, and report financial activities within the designated area.
The Manage Transaction Scopes console contains the list of Transaction Scopes configured in BMC Helix Portfolio Management and provides functionality to add, remove or modify the Transaction Scopes. This console is accessible to the user with the Financial Master role.
To support common financial planning and reporting practices, the system comes with two predefined Transaction Scopes — Actuals and Budget. Organisations can use these out-of-the-box scopes to immediately begin tracking their financial performance versus expectations, while also having the flexibility to define additional custom scopes as needed.
