Configuring Financial Accounts


A Financial Account is a record used to track monetary activities within a Financial Dataset. Similar to bank accounts, the Financial Accounts allow Financial Masters to deposit, withdraw, and manage money. It stores details of transactions, balances, and financial movements, helping users monitor and manage finances effectively. 

The Manage Financial Accounts console of BMC Helix Portfolio Management contains the list of Financial Accounts and provides functionality to add, remove or modify the accounts. This console is accessible to the user with the Financial Master role.   

To support common financial tracking practices out of the box, the system comes preloaded with a set of standard accounts, including Costs, Earnings, and Consolidation accounts. These predefined accounts help organisations get started quickly and serve as a base structure for recording typical financial activities.

To access the Manage Financial Accounts console

  1. Log in to BMC Helix Portfolio Management  and click Settings 1751448694122-476.png. 
  2. Select Financial Management.  
  3. Navigate to Accounts. The console will have the list of Financial Accounts if they have already been created. 

To create a Financial Account

  1. Log in to BMC Helix Portfolio Management and click Settings1751448694122-476.png. 
  2. Select Financial Management > Accounts
  3. To add a new financial account, click +New , provide the following details:  

Field 

Description 

Account Name  

A unique name to identify the financial account. 

Account Code 

A numeric or alphanumeric code used for referencing the account. 

Account Type 

Defines the category of the account. Select from –  

  • Gain/Loss 
  • Credit 
  • Debit 

Consolidated in 

Specifies the Position under which this account is included for reporting and analysis. 

4. Click Save

To modify or edit a financial account

  1. Log in to BMC Helix Portfolio Management and click Settings1751448694122-476.png. 
  2. Select Financial Management > Accounts
  3. Click on the name of the Financial Account or select the row, and click Edit.
    This will show you the details that you provided while creating the Financial Account. 
  4. Modify the details and click Save.  

To delete a financial account

  1. Log in to BMC Helix Portfolio Management and click Settings1751448694122-476.png.   
  2. Select Financial Management > Accounts
  3. Select the Financial Account, and click Delete.
