Migrating dynamic fields to extension fields


After generating extension record definitions and creating extension field mappings, a case business analyst can migrate the values from dynamic fields from existing cases to the newly created extension fields. When the existing dynamic fields are migrated, they can be used in approvals, notifications, reporting, service level agreements for existing cases.

A case business analyst migrates the values of dynamic fields into extension fields by running a migration job in the Extension Field Migration Job Console.

To run a migration job

  1. As a case business analyst, click Settings SettingsIcon.jpg.
  2. Expand Case Management and select Dynamic Fields Migration.
  3. On the Dynamic Data Migration Jobs page, click + Job.
  4. On the Create job page, specify the name and description of the job.
  5. Select the company for the job.
  6. Click Select Case Template and select a template from the template list, and click Apply.
  7. To define case qualification, click 22_4_AdditionalCaseQualification.jpg, and define the qualification expression.
  8. To define the field mapping, click 22_4_MapFields.jpg, and complete the following steps on the Field Mapping page:
    1. Select a dynamic field.
    2. In the Map to Field pane, select the Record Definition Name.
    3. From the Fields list, select the custom field that you want to map.
      The following image shows an example of the field mapping:

    4. Click Save.
      The mapped fields are displayed in the Field Mapping field on the Create Job page.
  9. Click Save.

Example

Scenario

As a business analyst, after Jordan creates the custom fields for or related to the case for a line of business, Jordan migrates the dynamic data field values to the newly created custom fields for existing cases. Jordan can now build reports by using the new custom fields with existing case records.


Results

You can now use the dynamic fields from existing cases as custom fields in approvals, notifications, reporting, and service level agreements.
