Out-of-the-box skills in BMC Helix Digital Workplace include both agentic and prompt-based capabilities. Agentic AI skills are driven by autonomous agents that carry out specific actions or workflows, while prompt-based skills are pre-configured.

Best practice

We recommend implementing the agentic AI configuration to deliver a more conversational and adaptive user experience. For more information, see Configuring Employee Navigator Supervisor agent.

If needed, you can continue using the prompt-based configuration with existing customized prompts. BMC Helix Digital Workplace supports both approaches, allowing flexibility based on your implementation needs.

Upgrade scenario: Transitioning from prompt-based to agentic configuration

As an administrator, configure the Employee Navigator Supervisor Agent to shift from a prompt-based approach to an agentic configuration for a more dynamic and conversational user experience. If you have previously used custom prompts with Employee Navigator, you can implement those customizations in the agentic configuration after upgrading.

Do not modify the original out-of-the-box agent configuration. To modify prompt instructions or update the default configuration, you must clone the out-of-the-box agent and create a custom skill and agent. Always make changes in the cloned version.
