Making studio pages available to end users

After you create your workplace pages in the Studio, make the pages available to your end users to give them access to information and services through the pages. You can either keep the pages unrestricted and available to all users or specify the type of users who can access them. You must publish the pages to make them available in the Navigation Manager UI, where you add them to the navigation menu. Your end users can then view the pages.

The following image is a visual guide to creating a page and making it available to your end users, and shows the current step that you are on:

Step 6 in page creation process - make pages available to end users

Before you begin

You might want to import your pages from another environment where you have already created them. For more information about importing pages, see Exporting-and-importing-workplace-studio-pages-and-search-views.

To enable the workplace for end users

After you create a combination of pages that form the workplace for various lines of business, you must enable the Studio (expose pages to end users) setting to make the studio pages available to your end users.

  1. Log in to the BMC Helix Digital Workplace Admin Console, and navigate to Configuration > Application Features.
  2. Select the Studio (expose pages to end users) check box.

Important

Ensure that you enable this setting after importing studio pages into a new environment.

To restrict visibility of studio pages to certain users through entitlements

By default, a studio page is unrestricted and visible to everyone. Use entitlement to allow or limit visibility to certain people groups. When you grant page visibility to a people group, all users belonging to the group can view the page. For information about people groups, see Creating-people-groups-for-end-user-collaboration. The Entitlement column in the Studio UI lists the entitlements for each page.

Perform the following steps to entitle people groups to a page:

  1. Select a page.
  2. From the list of available actions for the page, select Entitlement.
  3. Search for and select the people groups who can view the page.
  4. Close the dialog box.

Important

If you set a restricted studio page as the Home page of a user without visibility, that user cannot view it. In such a scenario, the My Activity page automatically becomes the Home page.

The following image shows how you entitle people groups to a page:

To publish a page

Publish a page to make it available in the Navigation Manager UI. Add the page to the navigation menu to make the page visible to the end users who are entitled to it.

  1. Select a page.
  2. From the list of available actions, select Publish, and confirm your action.
