Linking software licenses to software titles.

You can use Track-It! to link software licenses to software titles. You can view software licenses linked to a software title in the Licenses section in the Software Title form. 

To link a software license to a software title

1. On the header bar, expand the hamburger menu and select Software Licenses.
2. On the Software Licenses page, double-click to open the software title.
3. In the Software Title form, in the Licenses section, click New.

4. In the New Software License form, fill in the following mandatory fields:

   • License Type
   • Licenses Owned

   All the other fields are optional.

5. Click Save License.
   The new software license is created in Track-It! and BMC Client Management (BCM) and is linked to the software title. The license consumption metrics are updated on the Software Title form.

   Important

   • If a software license is created without any value in the Expiration Date field, its status is set as Active.
   • If the value in the Expiration Date field of a newly created software license is for the future, its status is set as Active.
   • If the value in the Expiration Date field of a newly created software license is in the past, its status is reset to Expired.

To edit a software license linked to a software title

1. On the header bar, expand the hamburger menu and select Software Licenses.
2. On the Software Licenses page, double-click to open the software title.
3. In the Software Title form, in the Licenses section, double-click to open the license.
4. In the Software License form, edit the required fields.

5. Click Save License.
   The software license is updated in Track-It! and in BCM.

   Important

   • If a software license is updated without any value in the Expiration Date field, its status is set as Active.
   • If the value in the Expiration Date field of an updated software license is for the future, its status is set as Active.
   • If the value in the Expiration Date field of an updated software license is in the past, its status is set as Expired.
   • If the Expiration Date field in an expired software license is cleared, its status is reset to Active.

(2022 Release 01) To copy a software license linked to a software title

1. On the header bar, expand the hamburger menu and select Software Licenses.
2. On the Software Licenses page, double-click to open the software title.
3. In the Software Title form, in the Licenses section, double-click to open the software license.
4. In the Software License form, click to copy the license.
   A copy of the software license is created in Track-It! and BCM, and the license consumption data on the Software Title form is updated.

(2022 Release 01) To delete a software license linked to a software title

1. On the header bar, expand the hamburger menu and select Software Licenses.
2. On the Software Licenses page, double-click to open the software title.
3. In the Software Title form, in the Licenses section, select the software license to be deleted.
4. Click  to delete the software license.
5. Click Yes.
   The software license is deleted in Track-It! and BCM, and the license consumption data on the Software Title form is updated.

(2022 Release 01) To retire a software license linked to a software title

1. On the header bar, expand the hamburger menu and select Software Licenses.
2. On the Software Licenses page, double-click to open the software title.
3. In the Software Title form, in the Licenses section, double-click to open the software license to be retired.
4. Click to retire the software license.
5. Click Yes.
   The software license is retired in Track-It! and BCM, and the record is changed to read-only. The technician details and the date and time of retiring the license are added in the Comments field on the Software License form. The license consumption data on the Software Title form is updated.

(2022 Release 01) To renew a software license linked to a software title

To fully renew the software license linked to a software title

1. On the header bar, expand the hamburger menu and select Software Licenses.
2. On the Software Licenses page, double-click to open the software title.
3. In the Software Title form, in the Licenses section, double-click to open the software license to be renewed.
4. Create a copy of the software license. For more details, see To copy a software license linked to a software title.
5. Update the value in the Expiration Date field of the copied software license.
6. Retire the original software license. For more details, see To retire a software license linked to a software title.

To partially renew the software license linked to a software title

1. On the header bar, expand the hamburger menu and select Software Licenses.
2. On the Software Licenses page, double-click to open the software title.
3. In the Software Title form, in the Licenses section, double-click to open the software license to be renewed.
4. Create two copies of the software license. For more details, see To copy a software license linked to a software title.
   1. In one copy of the license, update the values in the following fields:
      • Licenses Owned - Enter the number of licenses to be renewed.
      • Expiration Date - Enter the new expiration date for the licenses to be renewed. 
   2. In the other copy of the license, update the Licenses Owned field with the balance quantity of licenses left after you subtract the number of licenses to be renewed from the total number of licenses owned under the original software license. The value in the Expiration Date field is the same as the original software license. 
5. Retire the original software license. For more details, see To retire a software license linked to a software title.
