Creating assets
Key features
- You can create, copy, print, and delete the asset record and clear the asset form.
- You can view all the changes made to assets from the audit trail window.
- You can assign an owner (requestor) for an asset.
- You can perform asset management functions on an asset.

- You can view all the tickets or assignments associated with an asset in the Details section.
- You can add financial information about the asset, such as vendor details, purchase details, expiration date, and so on.
- You can use the Additional Information field to enter notes about the asset.
- You can create assets in BMC Client Management from Track-It!.
- The lower pane of the Asset form that contains the Ticket, Assignments, and Asset Relations tabs is referred to as the Details section.
- System administrators can customize the Asset form based on your business requirements.
- System administrators can assign custom forms to groups, which can be used by technicians assigned to that group.
Key considerations
- The Asset Name and Asset Type fields are mandatory.
- You must select Allow Agent Actions (Audit, Remote Control) to enable the asset to be audited and remotely controlled.
- If you retire an asset, it cannot be discovered again during asset discovery.
- You cannot link assets to tickets or assignments from the Asset form. You can only link assets from the ticket or assignment form.
- Do not include chevrons (<>) while naming an asset because this might cause database errors.
Creating assets
- On the header bar, expand the hamburger menu and click Asset Management.
- On the header bar, from the ADD NEW menu, click New Asset.
The New Asset form displays the fields related to assets. - Enter details in the mandatory fields in the Asset form.
Click Save Asset.
Performing additional actions on an asset
After you save an asset, you can perform additional actions. Ensure that the asset is associated with an owner to link the asset to tickets and assignments.

To audit assets now
You can only audit one asset at a time. The value in the Last Audited Date field shows the date on which the asset was last audited.
- On the header bar, expand the hamburger menu and click Asset Management.
- To open an Asset form, double-click the asset.
- Click
Audit Now.
Track-It! rolls out the BMC Client Management on the device if it is audited for the first time.
The audited information is updated to the Asset Management workspace grid.

To view asset details
- On the header bar, expand the hamburger menu and click Asset Management.
- To open an asset form, double-click the asset.
- Click
View Asset Details.
The Asset Details window displays the details including hardware, software, and security details.
To create tickets for an asset
- On the header bar, expand the hamburger menu and click Asset Management.
- To open an asset form, double-click the asset.
- Click
Create ticket. to open the New Ticket window.
The asset name is already displayed in the Requestor Information section of the form. - Enter the details for the required fields.
- Click Save Ticket.
To remotely control assets
Ensure that the browser used to establish remote control sessions has BMC Client Management as a trusted certificate authority and install the SSL certificate. For more information, see Installing-SSL-certificates. To ensure that an asset can be controlled remotely, ensure that the asset is discovered in Track-It!. You can remotely control Windows and Mac devices only. Currently, you cannot remotely control Linux devices.
- On the header bar, expand the hamburger menu and click Asset Management.
- To open an asset form, double-click the asset.
- Click
Remote Control.
Track-It! establishes a remote control session with the target asset.
To retire assets
You can choose to retire an asset that you no longer require. If you retire an asset you cannot audit, remotely control, or manage the asset.
- On the header bar, expand the hamburger menu and click Asset Management.
- To open an asset form, double-click the asset.
- Click
Retire.
Track-It! retires the asset and it is no longer visible in the Asset Management workspace grid.
To view tickets associated with the asset
- On the header bar, expand the hamburger menu and click Asset Management.
- To open an asset form, double-click the asset.
- In the Details section (lower pane of the form), select Tickets.
The Tickets tab lists all the tickets that are associated with the asset.
To view assignments associated with the asset
- On the header bar, expand the hamburger menu and click Asset Management.
- To open an asset form, double-click the asset.
- In the Details section (lower pane of the form), select Assignments.
The Assignments tab lists all the assignments that are associated with the asset.
To view the audit trial of assets
- On the header bar, expand the hamburger menu
and click Asset Management.
- To open an asset form, double-click the asset.
- Click the
icon to open the Audit Trail window.

To link or unlink assets
In the Asset form, you can link or unlink assets as parent or child assets.
- On the header bar, expand the hamburger menu
and click Asset Management.
- To open the asset form, double-click the asset.
- In the Details section (lower pane of the form), select Asset Relations.
- From
select the option as required.
- Select the required asset and click OK. The association is displayed in the Details section.
- Similarly, to unlink an asset, select the asset and select Unlink to unlink the association.
