Creating and managing software titles (2021 Release 02)

You can use Track-It! to maintain a record of software titles. This record consists of unique identification of audited software owned by your organization.

To discover and audit your IT assets, you must first configure BMC Client Management (BCM) in the Asset Management settings as follows:

1. On the header bar, expand the hamburger menu  and select Configuration.
2. Click Asset Management and select BMC Client Management Configuration.

The list of audited software per computer is displayed in the Software Licenses module in Track-It!.

To create software title

1. On the header bar, from the ADD NEW menu, select Software Title.

2. In the Software Title form, fill in the following mandatory details:

   • Title Name
   • Evaluation Type
   • Application Selector
     • If you select All, then after synchronizing your software titles, only the assets containing all the linked applications are linked to the software title.
     • If you select Any, then after synchronizing your software titles, the assets containing any of the linked applications are linked to the software title.
       

   All the other fields, such as Publisher, License Information, and Additional Information, are optional.

3. Click Save Software Title.
   The software title is created and saved in Track-It! and also in BCM. If the selected software title name already exists in the system, an error message is generated.

   Important

   When a software title is created, it is assigned the Track-It! device group by default in BCM. This facilitates the linking of assets and licenses to the software title on synchronization. If the Track-It! device group is not present in BCM, the software title is created without a device group and you must manually assign a device group or devices to the software title in BCM.

   When you select a software title from the software title grid, the preview pane displays a preview of the selected software title. This preview pane displays the Software Title ID, Title Name, Evaluation Type, Status, Publisher, and linked License Information. You can select the location of the preview pane from the right or bottom of the screen. You can also hide the preview pane.

To update software title

1. On the header bar, expand the hamburger menu  and select Software Licenses module.
2. On the Software Licenses page, double-click to open the software title that you want to update.
   The editable fields on the Software Title page are as follows:
   
   • Title Name
   • Evaluation Type
   • Application Selector
   • Publisher
   • Additional Information
3. Click Save Software Title.
   The software title is updated and saved first in BCM and then in the Track-It! database. If the selected software title name already exists in the system, an error message is generated. If you try to update a software title that has been deleted from BCM, an error message is generated and the error is entered in the log file.
