Specifying general settings
The general settings help you control the behavior of generic system functions. You can navigate to the System > Settings > General page to specify default values for certain functions, enable or disable functions, and define the authentication mechanism for your system.
The following table describes the settings that you can modify.

Instance Information | |
Instance Name | Specify a unique name to identify the BMC Release Process Management product instance. The instance name is displayed at the lower-right corner. Specifying an instance name is useful if you have multiple instances of BMC Release Process Management installed in your environment. For example, BRPM instance. |
Instance Base URL | Specify the fully qualified server URL where BMC Release Process Management is running. For example, http://vw-pun-rpm-1234.bmc.com:8080 Specifying this information is useful in the following cases:

Session Timeout | Specify the timeout for the user session in BMC Release Process Management. |
Date and Time Settings | |
Default Date Format | You can select from the following date options to apply as a default setting:

Default Time Zone | You can select from a list of time zones to apply as a default setting. |
Module - Requests | |
One-Click Step Completion | Select this check box to complete a manual step by one click and without having to manually start it. When the corresponding request is started, you can see the Complete Note: This capability is applicable only for manual steps. |
Commit on completion | Select this check box to enable the Commit on completion check box by default in the New Step dialog box when you are adding a new step. |
Limit Versions to Metadata | In the New Step dialog box, select this check box to cause a list box to appear for selection of the component version and for an installed component associated to an environment of an application on the Applications tab. If you do not select this check box, a text box is displayed for you to enter an appropriate component version. Selecting this check box provides a list of versions available in the database. To see a list of versions, you must have already created these versions for the appropriate application, environment, and component set by using the Environment > Metadata > Manage Version Tags page. |
Email Release Stage Completion | At least one request is successfully deployed to the stage and the next stage or stages, if any, become available for deployment. An email notification is sent to the users of the application. Notes:

Default Step Estimate | Specify the default value in minutes that is used to populate the Estimate box when scheduling steps (expand General tab). |
Allow Alternate Servers | Select this check box if you want to use additional servers that are not assigned to the component of application environment that is used in a step. |
Module - Automation | |
Enable Automation | Enable this check box so that you can see the Automation tab on the Environment menu and successfully use the product's automation capability. |

Allowed File Extensions | Specify the comma-separated list of file extensions allowed to be uploaded in RPM. Supported file extensions:

Allowed File Types | Specify the MIME types associated with the file extensions. You can use this field to restrict the type of files to be uploaded. Supported file types:

From Date | Select the date using the calendar feature. Requests and Reports from the specified date will be displayed in BRPM. For example, if you select 1 Dec 2008, users will not be able to see timelines before the specified date while using date filters to view requests or reports. |
To Date | Select the date using the calendar feature. Requests and Reports upto the specified date will be displayed in BRPM. For example, if you select 1 Dec 2018, users will not be able to see timelines after the specified date while using date filters to view requests or reports |
(Applicable only for version 5.0.03.003 and later) | Specify the maximum number of days that will be used as the range between the From and To fields while filtering requests, bulk delete requests, reports, or currently running steps. The default and minimum value is 0, which means that there is no restriction on the number of days for which you can view data. Maximum value is 9999. For example, if you specify 10 days in this field, the difference between the From date and To date can be only 10 days, and you can view data only for those 10 days. By default, the To field is populated with the current date and the From field is populated with the current date minus the value you enter in the Allowed Range field. |
Authentication | |
Default Authentication (username/password) | Select Default Authentication if you want to use a simple authentication process where you provide your local user name and password details only. The user name and password details are stored in the database. This authentication checks if you are a valid user and then provides access to your account. |
Enable Forgot Password | Select this check box to see the following two links at the time of logging in to BMC Release Process Management:
This capability helps you enable or disable the option of resetting the user name or password for product logon. |
New in 5.0.03.002Allowed Login Attempts | Enter the number of times a user can try to log on BMC Release Process Management with incorrect credentials before the user account is locked. The default value is 5. This capability helps you safeguard BMC Release Process Management application against any security vulnerabilities. This is only applicable for local authentication. LDAP users can continue logging in. For more information on unlocking the user, see Managing-users. |
LDAP Authentication | Select LDAP Authentication to use the Light Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) as your external authentication mechanism. If you select this option, specify the following details regarding the LDAP server that you are using for the authentication:

CAS Authentication | Select CAS Authentication to use the Central Authentication Service (CAS) as your external authentication mechanism. If you select this option, specify details for the CAS Server that you are using for the authentication. For more information, see Enabling-CAS-authentication. |
Messages |

Create queue messages for integrations? | Select this check box to allow messages to be pushed to the queue so that other tools can be notified of state changes for steps and requests. For more information, see Messaging-system-support-for-integrations. |
Click Save to apply your changes or click cancel to exit without saving any changes. |
