Managing environment types

Starting with BMC Release Process Management version 4.3.01.03, you can assign an environment to one of the predefined environment types.
Environment types categorize the environments and help you facilitate the later plan stage assignments and  route planning. Assignment of environments to the predefined environment types enhances routing, promotion, and the role assignments based on the user group membership. The typical organization might have hundreds of environments of the same environment type, to which users may be granted access based on their group memberships.

There are four predefined environment types:

  • Generic
  • Development
  • Testing
  • Production

You can also add new environment types, associate them with a specific color, and select whether the environment type is strict.

To add a new environment type

  1. Go to Environment > Metadata > Manage Environment Types.
  2. Click the Create Environment Type button.
  3. Enter the name of the environment type, its description, and then select the label color to which you want to associate the new environment type.
  4. Select whether the environment type is strict.

    Warning

    Note

You cannot assign to the plan stage a route gate which contains two environments of different strict environment types.

  5. Click Create.
