Mapping properties

You must map properties so that the same values that you have put in properties move into the elements that work with those properties. For example, when you put values such as classpath in properties, you map the same value to each request working with those components in those environments.

Property mapping is of two types:

  • Mapping a property against a parameter by using the application mapping option
  • Mapping a property against a parameter by using the infrastructure mapping option

To map a property against a parameter by using the application mapping option

  1. Create a property.
  2. Assign a value to the property.
  3. Associate a component or components to the property.
  4. Select Environment > Automation.
  5. Select the required automation process: SSH, BMC BladeLogic, or Hudson.
  6. Select your required script from the Import from Library link or write your own script.
  7. Click your required script to open the scripts panel.
  8. Click the map link.
  9. In the dialog box that opens, select Application mapping.
  10. Under Select the Mapped elements, select the required application, associated environments, components, and properties.
  11. Click Save.

When you use the mapped script for a particular step, after you have selected the automation options, the property value is assigned to the command.

To map a property against a parameter by using the infrastructure mapping option

  1. Create a property.
  2. Assign a value and associate it to a server.
  3. Select Environment > Automation.
  4. Select the required automation process: SSH, BMC BladeLogic, or Hudson.
  5. Select the required script from the Import from library link.
  6. Click the required script to open the scripts panel.
  7. Click the map link.
  8. In the dialog box that opens, select Infrastructure mapping.
  9. Under Select the Mapped Elements, select the required entity type, associate server or servers, and the property.
  10. Click Save.

When you use the mapped script for a particular step, after you select the automation options, the property value is assigned to the command.
