Managing components
A component is a logically distinguishable part of an application. An application can be composed of several components, some of which might be optional (for example, an application might not need a load balancer to function). You must create a component with the application that you created.
An application might have a three-tier architecture. In this case, an example of a component could be an application server, a database, or a load balancer.
Because the order of components is often significant, you can control the order of components within an application.
This topic describes how to manipulate components in an application:
To create components for an application
- In BMC Release Process Management, click the relevant application name.
- Click the add/remove components link.
The Add/Remove Components dialog box is displayed. - Click create new component — click multiple times to add more than one component.
- Enter a name for each component in the displayed fields.
- Click Save.
The new components are added to the list of components.
To reorder components in an application
- Click the application for which you want to reorder components.
- Click the Reorder Components link on the right.
- In the Reorder Components page, click and drag each component to the correct position in the order and release it there.
- When you are finished adjusting the order, click done grouping.
To edit a component name
- From Environment > Component, click the relevant component.
- In the Name field, change the name of the component.
- Click Update.
The Components page displays the new name of the component.
