Support for Java

This topic describes BMC’s support for Java starting from January 1, 2019 and actions required for BMC Release Process Management.

Overview

Recent announcements by Oracle about commercializing Java have resulted in questions about how BMC will handle Java in Release Process Management.

Impact

Product versions releasing after January 1, 2019

  • The RPM Server component that uses bundled Java environment will be shipped with Azul Java runtime.

    Note

The supported type and version of Java may change in the future releases.

  • For RPM components that use an external Java environment, Java updates must be acquired by users for supported Java version (Azul Java version 1.8 update 192). BMC will not provide Java updates.
  • For information on Java environment for integrated BMC products, refer to the documentation for those products.

Product versions released prior to January 1, 2019

  • BMC recommends that you upgrade to the most recent product version to get all the available fixes and security updates.
  • Users can continue to use the product with the existing Java environment. If a security update is needed, BMC will provide instructions on how to replace the existing Java environment with an updated and supported type.
