Setting property values for a package, repository, or instance

You can set property values for a package, repository, or instance in BMC Release Package and Deployment by using the BMC Release Process Management user interface. This can be done by using any of the automation scripts available for the BMC Release Package and Deployment integration at the time of adding a step. Also, you must map properties in BMC Release Process Management with properties (already defined) in BMC Release Package and Deployment.

Note

The package, repository, or instance for which you want to pass on property values from BMC Release Process Management, must already have properties defined in BMC Release Package and Deployment. You can use BMC Release Process Management only to set values for the existing properties while using an automation script in a step.

To set property values from BMC Release Process Management

  1. Map properties in BMC Release Process Management with properties (already defined) in BMC Release Package and Deployment. For this, create properties in BMC Release Process Management in the format DE_propertyName. The property name that you use at the time of creation for the purpose of this mapping must be prefixed with DE_ followed by the exact property name as that defined in BMC Release Package and Deployment. The values of the properties created with this prefix are passed on as values for the properties defined in BMC Release Package and Deployment. For more information about creating properties, see Managing-properties.
  2. Navigate to the requests tab and add a step under a particular request. In the step, you must use the same component that you used earlier for creating the properties. These properties are automatically added on the Properties tab in the step. Perform the following tasks on the Automation tab in the step:
    1. Select RLM Deployment Engine in the list available for Step Action.
    2. Select one of the automation scripts from the list available for Task
    3. Depending on the automation script that you selected in the preceding step, select one of the following:
      • package
      • repository
      • instance

        Example

If you select the RLM create and deploy package instance automation script, then you must select a package to display its associated properties next to the Set Properties label. You can then select the properties for which you want to override values with the property values in BMC Release Process Management.

  3. Save the step.
  4. Run the request, under which the step is added.

When you run the request, BMC Release Process Management automatically passes on the values for properties associated with the step to the selected  properties for the package, repository, or instance in BMC Release Package and Deployment.
