Fresh installation
This topic provides instructions for installing BMC Release Lifecycle Management 5.0 on Windows and Linux.
Before you begin
- Download and unzip the BMC Release Lifecycle Management zip files in your preferred location.
Verify that your environment meets the requirements listed in the System-requirements topic and verify that you have prepared the installation environment.
Windows:- Ensure that you have administrator privileges to install the solution and register the component products as services.
Linux:
- Ensure that you have superuser privileges to install the solution and register the component products as services.
- Ensure that there is no Ruby Version Manager (RVM) environment in the path of the installation.
- If your Linux environment has the DISPLAY variable set to export your display to a remote system, ensure that the remote system has an X Window server installed and configured.
To install the solution
To start the installation program:
Windows:- To install product with administrator privileges, go to RLMinstallationDirectory\RLM\Disk1 and run the setup.cmd command.
- To install product as a normal user, double-click setup.cmd.
Linux or Oracle:
- Log in as a root user.
- Navigate to RLMinstallationDirectory\RLM\Disk1.
- To make the installation file executable, run the chmod -R +x . command.
- To start the installation program, run the ./setup.sh command.
- On the welcome page of the BMC Release Lifecycle Management 5.0.00 Installer wizard, click Next.
- On the license agreement page, select I agree to the terms of the license agreement, and then click Next.
On the Directory Selection page, specify the installation directory for BMC Release Lifecycle Management 5.0.00, and then click Next.
- On the Installation Type page, do one of the following, and then click Next.
- If you started the installation as a root user or administrator, select Installer is started with root privileges so perform full installation.
If you started the installation as a normal user, select Install solution files and configurations. Do not perform tasks that require special rights.
- Select any or all of the following features, and then click Next.
- Install BMC Release Process Management 5.0.00
- Install BMC Release Package and Deployment UI 5.0.00
- Install BMC Release Package and Deployment Engine 5.0.00
- Install PostgreSQL
- (For RPD UI 5.0.00) On the deployment action packs page, select the appropriate action packs based on the middleware type that you want to manage, and then click Next.
- On the BMC Release Process Management data migration page, click Next.
- On the BMC RPM Server Instance type page, select the deployment mode for RPM:
- To run RPM as a single instance, select Standalone.
- To run RPM as a node in the cluster, select Cluster, and then do the following:
- In the Node name box, enter the name of the cluster node.
- In the Node IP box, enter the IP of the cluster node.
- Click Next.
- (For RPD UI 5.0.00) On the BMC Release Package and Deployment data migration page, click Next.
- (For RPM) On the JRE information page:
- To Use the bundled JRE (version 1.8.0_31), click Next.
- To use any other JRE, clear the Use the bundled JRE (version 1.8.0_31) check box, click Browse, set the path to the JRE on your computer, and then click Next.
(For RPM) On the Server HTTP/HTTPS Port Information page:
- To use HTTP to access the RPM server, in the HTTP Port box, enter the HTTP port number, which refers to the port of the TorqueBox server (default: 8080).
To use the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to access the RPM server:
- Select Enable SSL.
- In the Private Key box, specify the directory path to the private key for SSL encryption.
- In the Certificate File box, specify the directory path to the certificate for SSL connection.
- In the Passphrase box, enter the passphrase for your certificate.

Click Next.
(For RPD UI 5.0.00) On Server HTTP/HTTPS port information page:
- To use HTTP to access the RPD server, in the HTTP Port box, enter the HTTP port number, which refers to the port of the Apache server (default: 80).
- To use the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to access the RPD server, complete step 11 a through d.
On the Super User Details page, provide the superuser credentials, and then click Next.
(For RPM) On the TorqueBox Super User Details page, enter the user name and password, and then click Next.
(For RPM) On the Messaging System Details page, specify the following details to connect to the messaging system server of RPM, and then click Next.
- Port: (Default 5445) The port of the messaging system server.
- User: The user name of the messaging system server. Login must contain numbers and letters. Avoid using root, admin, or administrator as login.
- Password: The password of the messaging system server. Password must be at least eight characters long and contain at least one letter, one number, and one special (non-alphanumeric) character.
- Confirm password: Confirmation of the password of the messaging system server.
On the Database details page, specify the relevant details for the database, and then click Next.
In the Database list, select one of the following:
- POSTGRESQL (Default port 5432)
- ORACLE (Default port 1521)
- SQL_SERVER (Default port 1433)
The Database list is dimmed if you selected Install PostgreSQL on the feature selection page.
- In the Host box, specify the computer name of the server where your database is installed.
The Host box is dimmed if you selected Install PostgreSQL on the feature selection page. - In the Port box, specify the port of the server that you used for installing your database. Depending on the database you specified, the default port is automatically displayed.
- In the RPM Database/SID Name box, do one of the following:
- For PostgreSQL or Microsoft SQL Server, specify the name of the database instance that you used while creating it at the time of the database installation.
- For Oracle, specify the SID details.
- In the RPM Database User box, specify the user name of the database instance that you used while creating it at the time of the database installation.
- In the RPM Database Password box, specify the password of the database instance that you used while creating it at the time of the database installation.
- In the RPD Database/Service Name box, do one of the following:
- For PostgreSQL or Microsoft SQL Server, enter the name of the database instance that you used while creating it at the time of the database installation.
- For Oracle, specify the service details.
- In the RPD Database User box, specify the user name of the database instance that you used while creating it at the time of the database installation.
- In the RPD Database Password box, specify the password of the database instance that you used while creating it at the time of the database installation.
- On the Email Notifications details page, do one of the following:
- Not to configure email notifications, click Next.
To configure email notification settings, select Use SMTP, and then specify the following SMTP server details:
- SMTP Server: The fully qualified name of the SMTP server used for sending emails.
- SMTP Port: (Default 25) The SMTP server port.
- SMTP Domain: The part of the user name after "xyz@" in your email address. For example, if your user name is redmine@example.net, then your domain name is example.net.
- SMTP Authentication: The authentication mechanism used for your SMTP service. You can select from one of the options in the list displayed.
- SMTP User: The user name used to connect to the SMTP server. For example, redmine@example.net.
- SMTP Password: The password used to connect to the SMTP server.
- TLS: Select this check box if your SMTP server requires a secure connection and is using TLS.

- On the Installation Preview page, view the installation details, and then click Install.
