Frequently asked questions
This section provides answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs) about BMC AppZone.
Do I need to configure SRDs in MyIT only or do I need to configure them in both MyIT and AppZone?
If service request definitions (SRDs) are configured in BMC MyIT only they will not be visible in BMC AppZone. To make SRDs visible in BMC MyIT and BMC AppZone, they must be explicitly configured in both applications.
The configuration for MyIT and AppZone is different because they display different things:
- For MyIT, you select the service catalog items (which SRDs) that you want to expose in the Support tab and as searchable items. When a user logs on, they have access to those items that have been entitled to them using BMC Service Request Management. MyIT performs the entitlement check for users in real time. For more information, see Configuring the BMC AppZone integration.
- For BMC AppZone, you must first create the app store profile (add images, marketing description, and so on), which is not part of BMC Service Request Management. For more information, see Specifying-store-appearance and Defining your store's marketing content. You can then create a profile for each product and associate it to an SRD by selecting from a list of SRDs supplied by BMC Service Request Management. Usually you will have many product profiles (all of your apps) associated to one SRD (for example, Request New Software). For information on configuring SRDs, see Configuring-a-BMC-MyIT-store. AppZone also has an entitlement engine to ensure that only entitled users see the software, hardware, and services profiles that you have published. AppZone uses a many to one relationship between profiles and SRDs. For example, a user may have been given access to the Request New Software SRD in Service Request Management, but that does not mean that the user should have access to all of the applications that use an SRD in the approval workflow.
Do we have to expose Remedy to the internet for AppZone connectivity?
BMC AppZone uses the BMC MyIT server to proxy all calls to BMC Service Request Management, whether the call is to get the service request definition (SRD) list, make the request, or pull the request status. You do not have to expose BMC Remedy to the internet but you will have to expose MyIT services to the internet. For more information, see Configuring the BMC AppZone integration.
The connection between AppZone and the MyIT server is secured by HTTPS. For more information, see Configuring-a-BMC-MyIT-store.
Is AppZone suitable for all of our service requests or should we use a hybrid approach that also uses MyIT?
Not all service requests lend themselves to a BMC AppZone profile (for example, access control or application permissions). Customers are taking a hybrid approach and are providing key (or most popular) services in AppZone. Searching the BMC MyIT Superbox can be the best approach for users as it will find all resources and services whether they are in AppZone or not. As the AppZone user interface evolves over the next product releases, BMC will be looking at ways to optimize the experience for all service requests.

Who is eligible to join a BMC AppZone store? How do I register to a store?
Users can join a BMC AppZone store by invitation only from their BMC AppZone Store IT Administrator. For more information, see Inviting-users-to-your-store.
How do I receive notifications for new versions of iOS applications?
In order to be notified that new versions of existing iOS applications are available, the applications must be properly formatted for interaction with BMC AppZone. See Configuring-an-iOS-application-for-publication for more information.
How do I rename my store?
You can only name your store once, when you are setting up the store for the first time. If you want to rename your store, you will have to disable the current version and create a new store. Please contact pa-appzone_support@bmc.com for assistance.
Can BMC AppZone run a Security Check on my application files? How does this process work?
BMC AppZone requires that APK applications go through a security check. BMC does not peform security checks on IPA files at this time. BMC AppZone uses Mobile Defense security software to scan the application strictly for maliciousness. The following list describes the security check process:
- The system sends APK files for Security Check as soon as they are uploaded and Draft is saved.
- Scan results Fail (red) or Pass (green) are received and display on the Application View and Edit pages. While the scan is in progress, the application is in Pending status and this process can take anywhere from a few minutes to 24 hours.
- The IT Manager can accept the risk (on a failed application) and publish the application, by confirming the Accept Risk configuration message. Also, to avoid the wait time if they are in a rush, the IT Manager can choose to publish the application even for Pending Mobile Defense.

I’d like a PDF of just selected information. How can I do that?
The BMC Documentation portal gives you the ability to generate PDF exports of multiple pages in a space.
Creating PDF exports

To export to PDF
- Click the Export icon in the upper-right.
- From the Export menu, select PDF.
- Follow the prompts for page selection and other options.
