Managing product bundles
This topic describes how store administrators can manage product bundles.
Bundles enable users to request multiple products using a single request. A bundle is considered a product type and is created from existing assets (hardware devices and applications). Bundles cannot contain bundles and the same product cannot be added twice to a bundle. Bundles are only shown in buckets (which technically means only in the store catalog).
Bundles are published to a user or group because, unlike applications, they do not go through a license assignment process, and they cannot be required or optional for a user or a group. They can only have a Requires Approval type of license.
When a user views the details for a bundle in your store catalog, the bundle details show the list of included products. Users can request access to the bundle or users can request individual products within the bundle by using the Request button.
Users who do not have a Requires Approval license do not have access to the Request button. When a user submits a request for a bundle, any products in the bundle that are licensed to that user are excluded from the bundle request.
Users can search for bundles. If their search criteria matches a product that is part of multiple bundles, the search returns the product and all bundles that the product is in.
To create a product bundle
- From the BMC AppZone Administration Console, select Bundles.
The Bundles page appears. - Click Add Bundle.
The Add New Bundle page appears. - Enter the bundle name.
- If your users access your BMC AppZone app store by using BMC MyIT and you have selected the Enable Pricing Display check box on the Update Application Store Configuration page, you can choose one of the following options:
- Show the bundle as FREE in the catalog. (The Free check box is selected by default.)
Show the cost of the bundle in the catalog by clearing the Free check box and entering the cost of the bundle in the Price field.
- Click Upload Logo to browse for and select a logo to upload for your bundle.
BMC recommends that the image is larger than 150 x 150 pixels (preferably 512 x 512 pixels). - Enter the description for the bundle.
- (Optional) Upload additional images for your bundle.
BMC recommends that you provide three to five images in UPNG format (800 x 500 pixels). - Select the required categories that will be used to find the bundle.
- As of BMC AppZone 2014.04, the default service request definition for bundles has been removed. If your users access your store using BMC MyIT, and you want to tie the product to a specific type of service request, you can choose to select the Manage bundle request with a single SRD check box and provide an SRD in the MyIT SRD Override field. You can choose to enter the SRD by either:
- Clicking Enter SRD by ID and entering the ID
- Clicking Enter SRD by Name, starting to type the name in the look up field, and selecting the name
- Click Publish to save your bundle information.
The Assign Products page appears. - Click Assign Bundle, and select either the Add Application menu option to add the selected applications to your bundle or the Add Service Product menu option to add the selected services to your bundle.
- From the Add Applications or Add Service Product pages, click Submit to save your selections.
