User goals and features
BMC AppZone delivers the following features:
- An application-management console for corporate IT to control the publishing and distribution of applications to end users (BMC AppZone store administrators can assign or revoke licenses and software)
- Direct connection with your company Service Catalog so that you can import all available software titles in the organization—Enables end users to request an available software title for those applications that were not initially assigned to them, or provisioned for them, but are available from their catalog
- Integration with BMC MyIT and BMC Service Request Management, which enables end users to create service request tickets that track software requests:
- Provides automated approval workflows for requested software, to facilitate efficient software assignment and license management.
- Facilitates custom approval workflows that require a manager to physically approve requests; these approvals start the automated installation process
- Desktop installation and license visibility through direct communication by using asset management—You can push a software installation request through BMC Footprints Asset Core or Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager, to enable direct installation on an end user's computer.
- Enables your BMC AppZone store administrator to create a private company app store with a catalog of applications built internally or sourced externally—You can host company-developed or third-party-sourced custom applications and distribute them directly in BMC AppZone without any need to deposit them into Apple iTunes or other Android app stores.
- BMC AppZone store administrators can also whitelist applications straight from Apple iTunes or other Android app stores.
- After applications are published, they are scanned for viruses and can then be assigned to individual users or groups.
- In addition to mobile applications, you can also assign and manage desktop and Cloud applications from internal repositories or catalogs, as well as external sources.
- User groups enable bulk assignment of applications to multiple users with a single click (licenses are applied only when a user installs the assigned software).
- LDAP and Active Directory are supported, to simplify the onboarding of users and for access management.
- BMC AppZone store administrators can distribute applications to external users such as contractors, partners, and customers, by inviting them into their company store.
- Direct messaging to end users for important company information or pending software updates—Optional or required software titles (and messaging concerning required titles or updates) are presented on user devices.
- A BYOD-friendly private app store for users to access from their device of choice—After your company app store has been set up, and application policies defined, end users simply access approved applications through a secure, private store on their device of choice.
