Architecture components and descriptions

The following table describes the components that are involved in the architecture for BMC AppZone.

Component

Description

BMC AppZone

The core administration system for applications, users, and devices across all customized stores.

BMC AppZone Administrator

A BMC system adminstrator who manages the BMC AppZone Marketplace, the BMC AppZone Manager, and the BMC AppZone database.

BMC AppZone Database

The database cluster where all applications, user records, store configurations, and license management reside.

BMC AppZone Manager

The BMC AppZone Manager controls the functions of users, devices, and application deployment.

Each BMC AppZone store has a customized administration view into the BMC AppZone Manager. This is the hub for user and device administrative activities such as group management and store configuration.

Each BMC AppZone Store also has a customized user view into the BMC AppZone Manager, for application and account management activities.

BMC AppZone Store Administrator

For the purposes of this documentation, this role is called the administrator.

User devices with BMC AppZone client installed

For the purposes of this documentation, this role is called the user.

BMC AppZone Marketplace

The BMC AppZone Marketplace is a collection of applications available for sale through each BMC AppZone Store. The catalog includes applications for mobile and desktop devices, across Android, iOS, and Windows platforms.

Each BMC AppZone store has a customized administration view into the BMC AppZone Marketplace. This is the hub for application administrative activities such as publishing and purchasing.

Each BMC AppZone store also has a customized user view into the BMC AppZone Manager, for application purchase and management activities.

Access to the applications stored in the BMC AppZone Marketplace is managed through role-based access control (RBAC) so each BMC AppZone store only has access to their prioprietary applications and any public applications.

BMC Infrastructure

The BMC Infrastructure is point of entry into BMC AppZone.

BMC AppZone Store

The BMC AppZone Store is a customized administrator or user view into the BMC AppZone Manager and BMC AppZone Marketplace. Each store is branded, configured, and managed by the BMC AppZone Store Administrator.

Mobile Defense

Mobile Defense is a third-party solution that provides industry-standard security by scanning applications for security and privacy risks. This scan is conducted automatically on each application submitted to the BMC AppZone Marketplace so that administrators can be confident they are publishing safe content.

External LDAP Server

The external LDAP server provides administrators the ability to reuse existing user account information when configuring their store.
