Technical Bulletin

This document provides information about the required configurations for using IBM Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus version 8.1.

For IBM Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus Java Socket Probe 1.7.X version

If you are using the BMC Impact Manager (IM) primary Event Management System (EMS) configuration, make the changes given in this section in one of the following files:

  • (Windows) %BIINETCOOL_HOME%\conf\Bii_Sync.conf
  • (Unix) $BIINETCOOL_HOME/conf/Bii_Sync.conf

If you are using the IBM Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus (netcool) primary EMS configuration, make the changes given in this section in one of the following files:

  • (Windows) %BIINETCOOL_HOME%\conf\Bii.Src.conf
  • (Unix) $BIINETCOOL_HOME/conf/Bii.Src.conf

Do the following:

  1. Depending on your primary EMS, change the delimiter value in the Bii_Sync.conf file or the Bii.Src.conf file as shown below:
    Delimiter=~~

    Note

The ParserElementDelimiter parameter does not work with the | (pipe) delimiter. Use ~~ or any other value as a delimiter.

  2. Set the value of the AddNewLineTerminator parameter to True.
  3. Rename the $MCELL_HOME/BiiNetcool/NetcoolFiles/socket.rules file to socket_java.rules.
  4. Copy the socket_java.rules file to the third-party EMS in one of the following locations:
    • (Windows) %OMNIHOME%\probes\platformName\
    • (Unix) $OMNIHOME/probes/platformName/
  5. In the socket_java.rules file, change the following variables:

The [confluence_table-plus] macro is a standalone macro and it cannot be used inline.

  6. Download the attached socket_java.props file.
  7. In one of the following locations of the third-party EMS, replace the socket_java.props file with the file that you downloaded:
    • (Windows) %OMNIHOME%\probes\platformName\
    • (Unix) $OMNIHOME/probes/platformName/
  8. In the socket_java.props file, add the object server name, local host, and local port number in the following parameters:
    • Server
    • LocalSocketHost
    • LocalSocketPort

For IBM Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus Socket Gateway 2.X version

Do the following:

  1. Rename the $MCELL_HOME/BiiNetcool/NetcoolFiles/socket.map file to socket_java.map.
  2. Copy the socket_java. map file to the third-party EMS in one of the following locations:
    • (Windows) %OMNIHOME%\gates\socket_java\
    • (Unix) $OMNIHOME/gates/socket_java /
  3. Download the attached G_SOCKET.props file.
  4. In one of the following locations of the third-party EMS, replace the G_SOCKET.props file with the file that you downloaded:
    • (Windows) %OMNIHOME%\gates\socket_java\ and %OMNIHOME%\etc
    • (Unix) $OMNIHOME/gates/socket_java/ and $OMNIHOME/etc/

For more information about the parameter values, see the attached BMC Impact Integration User Guide for Tivoli.
