Concurrent License Usage report

The Concurrent License Usage report reports on license usage and is a valuable tool for system administrators to determine whether licenses are being used efficiently, additional licenses are required, or too many licenses have been obtained. To access the Concurrent License Usage report, select Reports | Metrics, then select Concurrent License Usage from the Step1: Select Report Type drop-down in the main frame. A Concurrent License Usage report can be saved and auto-run. Click the GO button when you are ready. Clicking the GO button displays the criteria options.

Options for the Concurrent License Usage report is as follows:

  • Select the license—Define the type of license on which the report will be run.  Options are Working and Logged In (Working and Logged In are explained below).
  • Select the report—Define whether the report determines the average number of licenses used during the specified period or the maximum number of licenses used during the specified period.  Maximum means the highest number during a given period, for example, if the period is one hour, then the maximum number of licenses that were actively in use during that hour may have been four, even though there may have been eight licenses or more available.  Options are Average or Maximum.
  • Time period—Define the date range for searching.  The current date's data is never available in the report.  This is because the data is not entered until the day is over.
    • Exact—Specify exact dates to search on in the period specified.  Enter the date or dates to search on.  Click the calendar icon to display a searchable calendar.
      • On—Specify a particular date (leave second date blank).

        Note

When "on" a single date is chosen, and you are reporting by month, the report contains Issues for the month that date is in. If "on" a single date is chosen, and you are reporting by week, the report contains Issues for the week the date is in.

      • Before—Issues that were created/last edited before the date entered are returned (leave second date blank).
      • After—Issues that were created/edited after the date entered are returned (leave second date blank).
      • Between—Returns Issues created/last edited between the dates specified (use both date fields).
      • Relative—Searches by relative date, allowing you to create a search or report that returns Issues, for example, for the last month.  Select a number from the first drop-down (1-31) and select the period from the second drop-down (DayWeekMonth, or Year).
      • Range—Select this to search by a particular time period, e.g., yesterday, last Sunday, etc.

Working versus logged In

When using the Concurrent License Usage report, you may encounter the terms Working and Logged In. Working refers to concurrent users who are currently active. Active is based on timeout values for being "inactive" and "idle", which default to 15 minutes and 60 minutes, respectively. The user must be within the limits of both to show as active.

An “inactive” concurrent agent can be kicked off if all licenses are used up and another concurrent agent attempts to log in. “Inactive” means that they have not requested a new page and the homepage refresh has not run within 15 minutes. “Idle” users will be kicked off if not enough licenses could be freed by kicking off “inactive” agents. “Idle” means that they haven’t requested a new FootPrints page within the defined time limit.

FootPrints never explicitly logs you off except to free up a license. If you’re surpassed the defined limits, but the license was not requested by another user, you can come back to your browser and continue to work in that same session.
