Error messages

You may encounter error messages when working with BMC FootPrints Asset Core. Some of these are:

  • Account not enabled—This indicates that the BMC FootPrints Asset Core integration account credentials have not been enabled in BMC FootPrints Asset Core. There are two options in this instance. If guest credentials have been enabled by the FootPrints administrator, the agent can clear the user-specific credentials on the  Miscellaneous tab of his or her Preferences and then use the guest credentials or, alternatively, the BMC FootPrints Asset Core administrator must enable the account. This involves:
    • In BMC FootPrints Asset Core, expand Global Settings in the left hand toolbar, right click on "Administrators", and choose "Create Administrator". Give the account the desired Login name and fill out other information if desired. Make sure the "Account Enabled" checkbox is checked. Switch to the "Authentication" tab. The account must be configured to use Internal Authentication. Put in the desired password and click OK.
    • Under Global Settings in the left hand toolbar, select "System Variables". On the Security tab, select the "FootPrints Integration" row and either press F2, right click and choose "Properties", or choose Edit | Properties from the top menu. For the "FootPrints Integration" property, fill out the Login you created in the previous step and click OK.
  • Account not found—This indicates that your personal account does not exist in BMC FootPrints Asset Core. Your BMC FootPrints Asset Core administrator must create or fix the account for you.
  • Connection failed—The BMC FootPrints Asset Core or FootPrints administrator should test the connectivity to the BMC FootPrints Asset Core server using the Click here to test connectivity link from the BMC FootPrints Asset Core system administration page within FootPrints.
  • Invalid Credentials—This message means that credentials could not be validated for access to BMC FootPrints Asset Core This may occur when an agent is defining a user name and password on the Preferences page or a system administrator defines guest credentials on the BMC FootPrints Asset Core administration page. The most likely reasons for this error are that the credentials do not exist in BMC FootPrints Asset Core or an error was made when entering the credentials on the user Preferences or BMC FootPrints Asset Core system administration page.

    Note

"Guest credentials" are system-wide credentials (user name and password) defined by a system administrator for all agents. An agent can log into the Asset Core with guest credentials as long as the agent has not defined user-specific credentials in his or her own Preferences.

  • Authentication Failed—The credentials used to access BMC FootPrints Asset Core have not been defined within FootPrints. Go to the Miscellaneous tab of your Preferences to change your credentials and gain access to BMC FootPrints Asset Core. Alternatively, the system administrator can create guest credentials. You may need to check with your BMC FootPrints Asset Core administrator to obtain the correct credentials.
